hindu dharm ke anusaar vishnu parameshvar ke teen mukhya roopon mein se ek roop hain. puraanon mein trimoorti vishnu ko vishv ka paalanahaar kaha gaya hai. trimoorti ke anya do Bhagwan Shiv aur brahma ko maana jaata hai. jahaaain brahma ko vishv ka srujan karne wala maana jaata hai vaheen Shiv ko sanhaarak maana gaya hai.
vishnu ki patni lakshmi hain. vishnu ka nivaas ksheer saagar hai. unka shayan saanp ke oopar hai. unki naabhi se kamal utpann hota hai jismein brahma ji sthit hai.
vah apne neeche vaale baaen haath mein padm (kamal) , apne neeche vaale daahine haath mein gada (kaumodaki) ,oopar vaale baaen haath mein shankh (paanchyajanya), aur apne oopar vaale daahine haath mein chakr(sudarshan) dhaaran karte hain.

vishnu shabd vis dhaatu( jo laitin mein - vicus aur saalavik mein vas -ves ka sajaateeya hai.)se aaya hai jiska arth hai baithna , upasthit hona. arthaat jo sabhi sthaanon par ho(sarvavyaapt) vahi vishnu hai. vedon ke ek puraane samaalochak yaask ne apni rachana nirukt mein vishnu ko " sab sthaanon par aane wala bataaya hai." unhonne ye bhi likha hai ki -" jo sabhi bandhanon aur daasatv se mukt hai vahi vishnu hai."
aadi shankar ne "sahasranaam:" par apni teeka mein vishnu shabd ki utpatti "vis" dhaatu se hi bataai hai. jiska arth hai andar privishth hona. aadi shankar (vishnu puraan 3.4.45) se - " param jeevon ki shakti ne brahmaan mein pravesh kar liya hai." yahaaain vis ka arth hai pravesh karna.
svaami chinmayaanand ne "vishnu sahsranaam:" ke apne anuvaad mein ise aur bhali prakaar samajhaaya hai: dhaatu vis ka arth andar aana hai, sansaar ki sabhi vastuen aur jeev inhi se vyaapt hain . upanishd bhi is baat ka apne mantr mein spasht roop se aagrah karte hain: is parivrtanasheel sansaar mein jo kuchh bhi hai. arthaat vah antariksh , samay aur jad se bandhe hue naheen hai. chinmayaanand aage kehte hain : jisse sabhi vastuen vyaapt hain vahi vishnu hai.[1]
dashaaavataar
vishnu ke das mukhya avataar maanyata praapt hain. yeh nimn hain:
- matsya avataar : matsya (machhli) ke avataar mein Bhagwan vishnu ne ek rishi ko sab prakaar ke jeev-jantu ekatrit karne ke liye kaha ek raakshas ne jab vedon ko chura kar saagar mein chhupa diya, tab Bhagwan vishnu ne matsya roop dhaaran karke vedon ko praapt kiya aur unhein pun: sthaapit kiya.
- koorm avataar : koorm ke avataar mein Bhagwan vishnu ne ksheerasaagar ke samudramanthan ke samay mandar parvat ko apne kavach par sambhaala tha. is prakaar Bhagwan vishnu, mandar parvat aur vaasuki naamak sarp ki sahaayata se devon env asuron ne samudra manthan karke chaudah ratnonki praapti ki.
- mohini avataar : koorm ke avataar ke samay Bhagwan vishnu ne mohini roop bhi dhaaran kiya tha.
- varaahaavataar : varaah ke avataar mein Bhagwan vishnu ne mahaasaagar mein jaakar bhoomi devi ki raksha ki thi, jo mahaasaagar ki tah mein painhuch gayeen theen. ek maanyata ke anusaar is roop mein Bhagwan ne hirnyaaksh naamak raakshas ka vadh bhi kiya tha.
- narasinhaavataar : narasinh roop mein Bhagwan vishnu ne apne bhakt prahalaad ki raksha ki thi aur usakepita hirnyakashyap ka vadh kiya tha. is avataar se Bhagwan ke nirgun hone ki vidya praapt hoti hai.
- vaaman avataar : ismein vishnu ji vaaman (baune) ke roop mein prakat hue. bhakt prahlaadake pautr, asuraraaj raaj bali se devataon ki raksha ke liye Bhagwan ne vaaman avataar dhaaran kiya.
- parashuraam avataar: ismein vishnu ji ne parashuraam ke roop mein asuron ka sanhaar kiya.
- Ram avataar: Ram ne raavan ka vadh kiya jo raamaayan mein varnit hai.
- krushnaavataar : shreekrushn ne devaki aur vasudev ke ghar janm liya tha. unka laalan paalan yashoda aur nand ne kiya tha. is avataar ka vistrut varnan shreemadbhaagavat puraan mein milta hai. is avataar mein vishnu ne apna viraat svaroop/vishvaroop dhaaran kiya tha.
- kalki avataar: ismein vishnuji bhavishya mein kaliyug ke ant mein aayeinge.

bhaavaarth - jinki aakruti atishya shaant hai, jo sheshanaag ki shaiya par shayan kiye hue hain, jinki naabhi mein kamal hai, jo adevataaon ke bhi ishvar aur sampoorn jagat ke aadhaar hain, jo aakaash ke sadrush sarvatr vyaapt hain, neelamegh ke samaan jinka varn hai, atishya sundar jinke sampoorn ang hain, jo yogiyon dvaara dhyaan karke praapt kiye jaate hain, jo sampoorn lokon ke svaami hain, jo janm-maran roop bhaya ka naash karne vaale hain, aise lakshmeepati, kamalanetr Bhagwan shreevishnu ko main pranaam karta hooain.[2]
chaturbhuj svaroop
Bhagwan vishnu shankh, chakr, gada evam padm dhaaran karte hain. shankh shabd ka prateek hai, shabd ka taatparya gyaan se hai jo srushti ka mool tattv hai. chakr ka abhipraaya maaya chakr se hai jo jad chetan sabhi ko mohit kar rahi hai. gada ishvar ki anant shakti ka prateek hai aur padm se taatparya naabhi kamal se hai jo srushti ka kaaran hai. in chaar shaktiyon se sampann hone ke kaaran hari ko chaturbhuj kaha hai.[3]

vaishnav siddhaant mein vishnu ko sarvashaktimaan pradarshit kiya gaya hai balki soorya jinka ek aur naam "sooryanaaraayan" bhi hai ko keval vishnu ka hi ek svarup maana jaata hai.

shruti
shruti ko poorn roop se daiveeya maana jaata hai. isko padya ki kadiyon ke roop mein sanrakshit na rakhakar sampoorn roop mein sanrakshit rakha jaata hai. iske antargat chaaron ved (rigved , yajurved , saamaved aur atharvaved) braahman ,aranyak aur teeka yukt upanishd aate hain.
smruti
smruti ka sambandh us gyaan se hai jo shruti ko grahan karne ke pashchaat praapt hua. smruti ko mool roop se daiveeya naheen maana jaata . jaisa ki naam se prateet hota hai ye ve yaadein hai jo rishiyon ke dvaara yaad kar li gayeen aur apni aane waali peedhiyon ko usi prakaar aage badha di gayeen. iske antargat bhagavat puraan aur vishnu puraan aate hai jo ki sattv puraan hain.
ye donon puraan Bhagwan vishnu ki sarvashaktimaan ishvar ke roop mein vyaakhya karte hai jinhonne ye anant brahmaand banaaya aur jo sabhi ke andar is sansaar ke svaami roop mein nivaas karte hain.
ved
ved mein vishnu ko sansaar ka rakshak hone ke kaaran "gop" kaha gaya hai. sanskrut mein go ka arth taare, aakaash, pruthvi, prakaash ki kiran, svarg, maveshi, vaani, soorya, chandrama, gaaya aadi hota hai . in sabka paalanakarta hone ke kaaran parameshvar ko gop, gopaal, gopendr aadi kaha jaata hai. vrunda ka sateetv aur vishnu
vishnu dvaara asurendr jaalandhar ki stri vrunda ka sateetv apaharan. jaalandhar ko varadaan tha jab tak usaki stri ka sateetv akshun bana rahega, tab tak use koi bhi maar naheen sakega. par vah itna atyaachaari nikla ki uske liye vishnu ko parastreegaman jaise upaaya ka aashray lena pada. rudra sanhita yuddh khand, adhyaaya 24 mein likha hai -
vishnurjalandharan gatva daityasya putabhedanam.
arthaat : vishnu ne jalandhar daitya ki rajdhani jaakar usaki stri vrunda sateevratya (pativratya) nasht karne ka vichaar kiya.
idhar Shiv ji jalandhar ke saath yuddh kar rahe the aur udhar vishnu ne jalandhar ka vesh dhaaran kar usaki stri ka sateetv nasht kar diya, jis se vah daitya maara gaya. jab vrunda ko vishnu ka yeh chhal maaloom hua to usane vishnu se kaha-
dhik tadevan hare sheelan paradaaraabhigaamin:. jnyaaatoऽsi tvan mayaasamyaङamaayi pratyaksh tapas:..
arthaat : he vishnu! paraai stri ke saath vyabhichaar karne vaale, tumhaare aise aacharan par dhikkaar hai. ab tumako main bhaleebhaanti jaan gayi. tum dekhne mein to mahaasaadhu jaan padte ho, par ho tum maayaavi, arthaat mahaachhali.
