upanadi ya sahaayak nadi aise jharane ya nadi ko bolte hain jo jaakar kisi mukhya nadi mein vilay ho jaati hai. upanadiyaaain seedhi kisi saagar ya jheel mein jaakar naheen milteen. koi bhi mukhya nadi aur usaki upanadiyaaain ek jalasambhar kshetr banti hain jahaaain ka paani upanadiyon ke jriye mukhya nadi mein ekatrit hokar fir saagar mein vilay ho jaata hai. iska ek udaaharan yamuna nadi hai, jo ganga nadi ki ek upanadi hai. prayaag mein vilay ke baad yamuna ka paani ganga mein mil jaata hai aur us se aage sirf mukhya ganga nadi hi chalti hai.[1]

'upanadi' ko angreji mein 'tribyutari' (tributary) kehte hain. yoonaani bhaasha mein 'upanadi' ko 'paaraapotaamos' (Πaaαaaρaaαaaπaaόaaτaaαaaμaaοaaς) kehte hain.
