amarakosh aadi praacheen koshon mein puraan ke paanch lakshan maane gaye hain : sarg (srushti), pratisrg (pralaya, punarjanm), vansh (devata va rishi soochiyaan), manvantar (chaudah manu ke kaal), aur vanshaanucharit (soorya chandraadi vansheeya charit) .

pramukh puraanon ka parichay

puraanon mein sabse puraana vishnupuraan hi prateet hota hai. usamein saampradaayik kheenchtaan aur raagadvesh naheen hai. puraan ke paaaincho lakshan bhi usapar theek theek ghatate hain. usamein srushti ki utpatti aur laya, manvantaron, bharataadi khandon aur sooryaadi lokon, vedon ki shaakhaaon tatha vedavyaas dvaara unke vibhaag, soorya vansh, chandra vansh aadi ka varnan hai. kali ke raajaaon mein magadh ke maurya raajaaon tatha guptavansh ke raajaaon tak ka ullekh hai. shreekrushn ki leelaaon ka bhi varnan hai par bilkul us roop mein naheen jis roop mein Bhagwat mein hai.

jain puraanon ka parichay : jain parampara mein 63 shalaaka-mahaapurush maane gaye hain. puraanon mein inki kathaaen tatha dharm ka varnan aadi hai. praakrut, sanskrut, apabhransh tatha anya deshi bhaashaaon mein anek puraanon ki rachana hui hai. donon sampradaayon ka puraan-saahitya vipul parimaan mein upalabdh hai. inmein bhaarateeya itihaas ki mahatvapoorn saamagri milti hai.

mukhya puraan hain:- jinsen ka 'aadipuraan' aur jinsen (dvi.) ka 'arishtanemi' (harivansh) puraan, ravishen ka 'padmapuraan' aur gunabhadr ka 'uttarapuraan'. praakrut aur apabhransh bhaashaaon mein bhi ye puraan upalabdh hain. Bhaarat ki sanskruti, parampara, daarshanik vichaar, bhaasha, shaili aadi ki drushti se ye puraan bahut mahatvapoorn hain.

jain dharm mein bhi bahut se puraan bane hain. inmein se 24 puraan to teerthakaron ke naam par hain; aur bhi bahut se hain jinmein teerthakaron ke alaukik charitra, sab devataaon se unki shreshthata, jainadharm sambandhi tatvon ka vistaar se varnan, falastuti, maahaatmya aadi hain. alag padmapuraan aur harivansh (arishtanemi puraan) bhi hain.
