naam ki utpatti

"mailaanishiya" ka naam yoonaani bhaasha ke do shabdon ko jodne se aata hai - "melaas" (μaaέaaλaaαaaς) yaani "kaala" aur "nisos" (νaaῆaaσaaοaaς) yaani "dweep". isliye "mailaanishiya" ke naam ka matlab "kaale dweep" hai, jo in dveepon par rahane waali maanav jaatiyon ki kaali tvacha ki taraf ek ishaara hai. yeh naam fraansisi nausainik neta aur khojak jhool dyumaaain dooraveeya (Jules Dumont d'Urville) ne 1832 mein polinishiya aur is kshetr mein antar bataane ke liye gadha tha kyonki in donon ilaakon ke log padausi to hain lekin inki jaatiyaan ek-dusare se kuchh bhinn hain.[1]
