koorm avataar

koorm avataar ko 'kachhap avataar' (kachhuaa ke roop mein avataar) bhi kehte hain. koorm ke avataar mein Bhagwan vishnu ne ksheerasaagar ke samudramanthan ke samay mandaar parvat ko apne kavach par sambhaala tha. is prakaar Bhagwan vishnu, mandar parvat aur vaasuki naamak sarp ki sahaayata se devon env asuron ne samudra manthan karke chaudah ratnonki praapti ki. is samay Bhagwan vishnu ne mohini roop bhi dhaaran kiya tha.


narasinhapuraan ke anusaar koormaavataar dviteeya avataar hai jabki bhaagavatapuraan (1.3.16) ke anusaar gyaarahavaaain avataar. shatapath braahman (7.5.1.5-10), mahaabhaarat (aadi parv, 16) tatha padmapuraan (uttaraakhand, 259) mein ullekh hai ki santati prajanan hetu prajaapati, kachhap ka roop dhaaran kar paani mein sancharan karta hai. lingapuraan (94) ke anusaar pruthvi rasaatal ko ja rahi thi, tab vishnu ne kachhaparoop mein avataar liya. ukt kachhap ki peeth ka ghera ek lakh yojan tha. padmapuraan (brahmakhad, 8) mein varnan hain ki Indra ne durvaasa dvaara pradatt paarijaatak maala ka apamaan kiya to kupit hokar durvaasa ne shaap diya, tumhaara vaibhav nasht hoga. parinaamasvaroop lakshmi samudra mein lupt ho gayi. pashchaat vishnu ke aadeshaanusaar devataaon tatha daityon ne lakshmi ko pun: praapt karne ke liye mandaraachal ki mathaani tatha vaasuki ki dor banaakar ksheerasaagar ka manthan kiya. manthan karte samay mandaraachal rasaatal ko jaane laga to vishnu ne kachhap ke roop mein apni peeth par dhaaran kiya aur devadaanavon ne samudra se amrut evam lakshmi sahit 14 ratnon ki praapti karke poorvavat vaibhav sanpaadit kiya. ekaadashi ka upavaas lok mein kachhapaavataar ke baad hi prachalit hua. koormapuraan mein vishnu ne apne kachhapaavataar mein rishiyon se jeevan ke chaar lakshyon (dharm, arth, kaam tatha moksh) ki varnan kiya tha.
