kobaalt ek raasaayanik tatv hai aur sankraman dhaatu ke samooh ka sadasya hai. apne shuddh roop mein yeh dhaatu sakht, chamakeeli aur saleti-chaaaindi rang ki hai, lekin yeh pruthvi par keval anya raasaayanik tatvon ke saath bane yaugikon ke roop mein hi milti hai. kuchh maatra mein yeh nikal ki tarah pruthvi par ulkaaon mein girti hai aur vaheen shuddh roop mein dekhi ja sakti hai.[1]
