khaadi samudri paani ke aise jalaashaya ko kehte hain jo kisi or se saagar ya mahaasaagar se to judi ho lekin jiske ird-gird kaafi had tak dharati ka ghera ho. dhyaan dein ki samudri tat mein chhote-se mod ko yeh darja naheen diya jaata aur keval mahatvapoorn kshetrafal vaale jalaashayon ko hi 'khaadi' bulaaya jaata hai.[1] udaaharan ke liye Gujarat se lagi hui khanbhaat ki khaadi teen or se dharati se ghira hua arab saagar ka ek ansh hai.

angreji mein 'khaadi' ke liye do shabd istemaal hote hain. patali khaadiyon ko aamtaur par 'galf' (gulf) aur chaudi khaadiyon ko 'be' (bay) kaha jaata hai, haalaanki is se vipreet prayog bhi angreji mein prachalit hain. inke atirikt 'baait' (bight) aur 'saaund' (sound) bhi kabhi-kabhi khaadi ke liye istemaal hone vaale shabd hain. arabi bhaasha mein khaadi ko 'khleej' (خaaلaaيaaج) kaha jaata hai aur yeh shabd madhya-poorv ki bahut-si companiyon aur sangathanon ke naam mein 'faaras ki khaadi' (Persian Gulf) ki niktata ke kaaranavash paaya jaata hai.
