jen aastin (Jane Austen ; 16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) ek angreji upanyaasakaar theen.

angreji kathaasaahitya mein jen aastin ka vishisht sthaan hai. inka janm san‌ 1775 E. mein England ke stiveintan naamak chhote se gaanv mein hua tha. maan-baap ke saat bachchon mein ye sabse chhoti theen. inka praaya: saara jeevan graameen kshetr ke shaant vaataavaran mein hi beeta. san‌ 1817 mein inki mrutyu hui. pride aind prejudis, seins aind seinsibiliti, naardeinjar, abi, ema, mainsafeeld park tatha parasueshan inke chhah mukhya upanyaas hain. kuchh chhoti moti rachaanaaen vaatsans, ledi soosan, sadishn aur love aind freindaship unki mrutyu ke sau varsh baad san‌ 1922 aur 1927 ke beech chhapeen.

France ki raajyakraanti ke prati bhi, jiska prabhaav is yug ke adhikaansh lekhakon ki rachanaaon mein parilkshit hota hai, ye sarvatha udaaseen raheen. jen aastin ki rachanaaen kori bhaavukata par madhur vyangya se otaprot hain. stri-purush-sambandh unke upanyaason ka keindrabindu hai, lekin prem ka visfotak roop ve kaheen bhi naheen pradarshit karateen. unke naari paatron ka drushtikon is vishay mein poornataya vyaavahaarik hai. unke anusaar prem ki svaabhaavik parinti vivaah evam sukhi daanpatya jeevan mein hi hai.

shiksha dene ya samaajasudhaar ki pravrutti jen aastin mein bilkul naheen thi. apne aaspaas ke saadhaaran jeevan ki kalaatmak abhivyakti hi unka dhyeya thi. anya drushtikonon se bhi unka kshetr seemit tha. fir bhi unke upanyaason mein maanav jeevan ki naisargik anubhootiyon ka vyaapak digdarshan milta hai. kala evam roopavidhaan ki drushti se bhi unke upanyaas uchch koti ke hain.
