jain darshan ek praacheen bhaarateeya darshan hai. yeh vichaaradhaara lagbhag chhathi shataabdi i॰ poo॰ mein Bhagwan mahaaveer ke dvaara punaraavratit huyi. ismein ved ki praamaanikta ko karmakaand ki adhikta aur jadta ke kaaran asveekaar kiya gaya. ismein ahinsa ko sarvochch sthaan dete huye teerthankar ke upadesh ka drudhta se paalan karne ka vidhaan hai. yeh vichaaradhaara moolat: naitikta aur maanavataavaadi hai. iske pramukh granth praakrut (maagadhi) bhaasha mein likhe gaye hain. baad mein kuchh jain viddhaanon ne sanskrut mein bhi granth likhe. unamein 100 i॰ ke aaspaas aachaarya umaasvaami dvaara rachit tattvaarth sootr bada mahatvapoorn hai. vah pehla granth hai jismein sanskrut bhaasha ke maadhyam se jain siddhaanton ke sabhi aङagon ka poorn rup se varnan kiya gaya hai. iske pashchaat anek jain vidvaanon ne sanskrut mein vyaakaran, darshan, kaavya, naatak aadi ki rachana ki.

jeev aur karmo ka yeh sambandh anaadi kaal se neer-ksheeravat juda hua hai. jab jeev in karmo se apni aatma ko sampoorn roop se karmo se mukt kar deta he to vah swayam Bhagwan ban jaata hai. lekin iske liye use samyak purushaarth karna padta hai. yeh jain dharm ki maulik maanyata hai.

jain darshan mein ka sookshm vivechan hua hai. iska ek mukhya kaaran yeh hai ki iska praroopan sarvajnya-sarvadarshi (jinke gyaan se sansaar ki koi bhi baat chhupi hui naheen hai, anaadi bhootakaal aur anant bhavishya ke jnyaaata-drushta), veetaraagi (jinko kisi par bhi raag-dvesh naheen hai) praani maatr ke hitechhuk, anant anukampa yukt jineshvar bhagavanton dvaara hua hai. jinke bataaye hue maarg par chal kar pratyek aatma apna kalyaan kar sakti hai.

apne sukh aur du:kh ka kaaran jeev swayam hai, koi doosra use dukhi kar hi naheen sakta.punarjanm, poorvajanm, bandh-moksh aadi jindharm maanata hai. ahinsa, satya, tap ye is dharm ka mool hai.

jain darshan is sansaar ko kisi Bhagwan dvaara banaaya hua sveekaar naheen karta hai, apitu shaashvat maanata hai. janm maran aadi jo bhi hota hai, use niyantrit karne waali koi saarvabhaumik satta naheen hai. jeev jaise karm karta he, un ke parinaam svarup achhe ya bure falon ko bhugatne k liye vah manushya, narak Dave, evam tiryanch (jaanavar) yoniyon mein janm maran karta rahata hai.
