jaimini vedavyaas ke shishya the. mahaabhaarat mein likha hai ki ved ka chaar bhaagon mein vistaar karne ke kaaran 'vedavyaas' (vistaar) naam pada. inhonne jaimini ko saamaved ki shiksha di tatha mahaabhaarat bhi padhaaya-

"vedaanudhyaapayomaas mahaabhaaratapanyachanaam. sumantu jaimini pail shukan chaiv svamaatmajam ".. (maha. aadiprv 63189; mahaadhar -yajurvedabhaashya, vaajasaneyi sanhita, aadi bhaag)

inheen vyaas ne brahmasootr ki, upanishdon ke aadhaar par, rachana ki. isi ko "bhikshusootr" bhi kehte hain jiska ullekh paanini ne ashtaadhyaayi mein kiya hai.

paanini ne apni ashtadhyaayi mein jis bhikshusootr ka ullekh kiya hai uske rachayita bhi yahi vedavyaas hain jinhein baadaraayan vyaas bhi ham kehte hain aur iseeliye yeh baadaraayan sootr bhi kahalaata hai. paanini ke kaal ke sambandh mein anek mat hote hue bhi goldastarak, vaasudevasharan Agrawal aadi vidvaanon ke anusaar yeh lagbhag 6000 varsh isa se poorv rahe honge, aisa kaha ja sakta hai.

satyavrat samaashrami ka kehna hai ki jaimini niruktakaar yaask ke poorvavarti hain. yaask paanini ke poorvavarti hain. saamaashrami ne yaask ko isa se poorv 19veen sadi mein maana hai. brahmasootr mein vedavyaas ne jaimini ka 11 baar ullekh kiya hai (1.3.38 : 1.2.31 : 1.3.31 : 1.4.18 : 3.2.40 : 3.4.2, 18, 40, 4.3.12 : 4.4.5, 11) aashvalaayan gruhmasootr mein bhi jaimini ka "aachaarya" naam se ullekh kiya gaya hai (3.18 (3) 1.1.5 : 5.2.19 : 6.1.8 : 10.8.44 : 11.1.64). mahaabhaarat ka "ashvamedhaparv" to jaimini ke hi naam se prasiddh hai. isi prakaar jaimini ne apne poorvameemaansaasootr mein paaainch baar baadaraayan ke mat ka, unka naam lekar, ullekh kiya hai.

is prakaar vedavyaas ke saath jaimini ka ghanishth sambandh rakhana pramaanit hota hai. ataev ye donon ek hi kaal mein rahe honge, aisa siddhaant maanane mein dosh naheen maaloom hota. paashchaatya vidvaanon ke anusaar jaimini isa se aath shatak poorv hi rahe honge, kintu bhaarateeya vidvaanon ke anusaar isa se teen hajaar varsh poorv jaimini ka samay kehne mein koi vishesh aapatti naheen maaloom hoti.

jaimineeya saamavedasanhita

saamaved ki ek hajaar shaakhaaeain huin jinmein keval kauthumi, jaimineeya tatha raanaayaneeya, ye hi teen shaakhaaeain aaj milti hain. jaimineeya shaakha Karnataka praant mein, kauthumeeya Gujarat tatha mithila mein evam raanaayaneeya Maharashtra pradesh mein pradhaan roop se prachalit hai. dablyoo kaileind (W. Caland) ne 1907 mein jaiminisanhita ka ek sanskaran nikaala tha. ise "talavakaar" sanhita bhi kaha jaata hai.

jaimineeya braahman

braahman granth ved ka hi ang hai. yeh panchavinsh-braahman se poorv ka granth hai. yeh sampoorn apraapya hai. kuchh anshamaatr prakaashit hue hain. iske do svaroop hamaare dekhne mein aate hain - "jaimineeya aarsheya braahman" jise barnel ne 1878 mein tatha "jaimineeya upanishd-braahman" jise 1921 mein echadru ental ne prakaashit karavaaya. aarsheya braahman ka dach bhaasha mein bhi anuvaad hua hai jise kainleind ne chhapavaaya hai. is braahmanagranth ke navam adhyaaya ko "kenopanishd" kehte hain. iska doosra naam "braahmanopanishd" bhi hai.

jaimineeya shrautasootr

yeh sootragranth saamaved se sanbanddh hai. yeh 1906 mein laaiden se khandit roop mein prakaashit hua hai. kuchh ansh ka anuvaad bhi prakaashit hai.

jaimineeyabhruhyasootr

yeh bhi saamaved ka granth hai. kainleind ne 1922 mein Punjab sanskrut sireej, Lahore se iska saanuvaad sanskaran prakaashit kiya tha.

jaimineeya ashvamedhaparv (mahaabhaarat)

mahaabhaarat mein likha hai ki vedavyaas ne jaimini ko mahaabhaarat padhaaya. inhonne anya gurubhaaiyon ki tarah apni ek alag "sanhita" banaai (mahaabhaarat, aadiprv, 763. 89-90) jise vyaas ne maanyata di. yeh parv 68 adhyaayon mein poorn hai. is parv mein jaimini ne janamejaya se yudhishthir ke ashvamedhayajnya ka tatha anya dhaarmik baaton ka savistaar varnan kiya hai. kiya jaata hai ki vedavyaas ke mukh se mahaabhaarat ki kathaaon ko sunakar unke sumant, jaimini, pail tatha shuk in chaar shishyon ne apni mahaabhaarat sanhita ki rachana ki. inmein se jaimini ka ekamaatr "ashvamegh parv" bach gaya hai aur sabhi lupt ho gaye.

jaimineeya poorvameemaansaasootr

poorvameemaansa ka yeh sootragranth hai. ise 12 adhyaayon mein sootrakaar ne samaapt kiya hai. ismein karm-meemaansa ke 12 vishyon par vichaar hai jinke naam hain--dharm, karmabhed, sheshatv, prayojya-prayojak-bhaav, kram, adhikaar, saamaanyaatidesh, visheshaatidesh, ah, baadh-abhyuchchaya, tantr tatha aavaap. isaliye is granth ko log "dvaadash lakshani" bhi kehte hain.

is sootragranth mein sootron mein punaruktiyaaain bahut hain, jaise "lingadarshanaachch" sootr 30 baar tatha "tatha chaanyaarthadarshanam" 24 baar aae hain. isi prakaar anya sootron ki bhi punaruktiyaaain hain : is granth mein nimnalikhit aachaaryon ke naam hain--baadaraayan (5 baar), baadari (5 baar), aitishaayan (3 baar); kaarshnaajini (2 baar), laavukaayan (1 baar), kaamukaayan (2 baar), aatreya (3 baar), aalekhan (2 baar). iske atirikt jaimini ne svaya paaainch baar apna naam bhi meemaansaasootr mein liya hai. isse ye samajhna ki do jaimini hue hain, theek naheen hai. is prakaar anya granthon mein bhi ullekh milte hain. yeh praaya: praacheen granthakaaron ki lekhashaili thi.

kuchh vidvaanon ka kehna hai ki poorv or uttarameemaansa tatha sankarshanakaand; ye sabhi ek hi saath likhe gaye. poorvameemaansa 12 adhyaayon mein tatha sankarshanakaand 4 adhyaayon mein jainmini ke naam se tatha uttarameemaansa (vedaantasootr) 4 adhyaayon mein baadaraayan ke naam se prasiddh hui. jab baadaraayan tatha jaimini donon guru-shishya the tab donon ne paraspar milkar hi ye sabhi likhe hon to koi aashcharya naheen.

meemaansa sootr ke pratham adhyaaya ka pratham paad "tarkapaad" naam se prasiddh hai. ismein meemaansa ke anusaar daarshanik vichaar hain. dharm ki jijnyaaasa se granth aarambh hota hai. pratyaksh, anumaan, upamaan, arthaapatti, abhaav tatha shabd ye chh: pramaan inhonne maane hain. pramaan mein svat:praamaanya ye maanate hain. dharm ke liye ekamaatr ved pramaan hai. ved ko apaurusheya jaimini maanate hain. shabd aur arth mein nityasanbandh ye maanate hain. shareeraadi se bhinn ek padaarth "aatma" inhonne sveekaar kiya hai. iske atirikt apoorv, svarg, moksh bhi jaimini ne maana hai. ishvar ko saakshaat maanane ki charcha inhonne naheen ki hai. inheen ko lekar anya daarshanik vichaar bhi hain.

jaimini, janamejaya ke sarpayajnya mein "brahma" banaae gaye the (mahaabhaarat, aadiprv 53.6). yudhishthir ki sabha mein ye vidyamaan the (mahaabhaarat, sabhaaparv, 4.11) aur sharashayya par pade hue bheeshmapitaamah ko dekhne gaye the (mahaabhaarat, shaantipoorv 47.6). puraanon mein likha hai ki jaimini "vajravaarak" the (shabd kalpadrum, pan॰ 345 bangala sanskaran)
