ishopanishd shukl yajurvedeeya shaakha ke antargat ek upanishd hai. yeh upanishd apne nanhein kalevar ke kaaran anya upanishdon ke beech behad mahattvapoorn sthaan rakhata hai. ismein koi katha-kahaani naheen hai keval aatm varnan hai. is upanishd ke pehle shlok ''ishaavaasyamidansarvanyatkinch jagatyaan-jagata…'' se lekar athaarahavein shlok ''agne naya supatha raaye asmaan vidhvaani Dave vayunaani vidvaan…'' tak shabd-shabd mein maanon brahm-varnan, upaasana, praarthana aadi jhankrut hai. ek hi svar hai — brahm ka, gyaan ka, aatm-gyaan ka.

adbhut kalevar vaale is upanishd mein ishvar ke sarvanirmaata hone ki baat hai saare brahmaand ke maalik ko ingit kiya gaya hai, saatvik jeevanashaili ki baat kahi gayi hai ki doosare ke dhan par drushti mat daalo.

is jagat mein rahate hue ni:sanङaagabhaav se jeevanayaapan karne ko bataaya gaya hai. ismein 'asurya' naamak lok ki baat aati hai — asurya matlab ki soorya se rahit lok. vah lok jahaaain soorya naheen pahuainch paata, ghane, kaale andhakaar se bhara hua anchatam lok, arthaat garbhalok.

kaha gaya hai ki jo log aatm ko, apne 'sv' ko naheen pahachaanate hain, aatma ko jhuthala dete hain, nakaar dete hain aur isi asveekaar tale poora jeevan bitaate hain unhein mrutyu ke pashchaat usi andhatam lok yaani ki asurya naamak lok mein jaana padta hai arthaat garbhavaas karna padta hai, fir se janm lena padta hai.

is prakaar is upanishd mein ek or ishvar ko sarvanirmaata maankar swayam ko nimitt maatr bankar jeevan jeene ka ishaara karta hai, jo doosari or aatm ko na bhoolane ki ingit karta hai.

iske baad aatm ko nirupit karne ka tathya aata hai ki 'vah' achal hai saath hi man se bhi jyaada teevragaami hai. yeh aatm (brahm) sabhi indriyon se tej bhaagane wala hai.

is upanishd mein aatm/brahm ko 'maatarijva' naam se ingit kiya gaya hai, jo ki sabhi kaaryakalaapon ko vahan karne wala, unhein sambal dene wala hai.

'aatm' ke brahm ke gunon ko bataane ke kram mein yahaaain yeh bataaya gaya hai ki vah ek saath, ek hi samay mein bhramanasheel hai, saath hi abhramanasheel bhi. vah paas hai aur door bhi. yahaaain use kai visheinshanon dvaara ingit kiya gaya hai — ki vah sarvavyaapi, ashareeri, sarvajnya, svajanma aur man ka shaasak hai.

is upanishd mein vidya evam avidya donon ki baat ki gayi hai unke alag-alag kism ke gunon ko bataaya gaya hai saath hi vidya evam avidya donon ki upaasana ko varjit kiya gaya hai — yahaaain yeh saaf-saaf kaha gaya hai ki vidya evam avidya donon ki (ya ek ki ma) upaasana karne vaale ghane andhakaar mein jaakar girte hain saakaar ki prakruti ki upaasana ko bhi yahaaain varjit maana gaya hai lekin haaain vidya evam avidya ko ek saath jaan lene wala, avidya ko samajhakar vidya dvaara anushthaanit hokar mrutyu ko paar kar leta hai, vah mrutyu ko jeetkar amrutatv ka upabhog karta hai yeh sveekaarokti yahaaain hai.

ismein sambhooti evam naashavaan donon ko bhaleebhaaainti samajh kar avinaashi tatv praapti evam amrut tatv ke upabhog ki baat kahi gayi hai. is upanishd ke antim shlokon mein bade hi sundar upamaan aate hain — brahm ke mukh ko suvarn paatr se tanke hone ki baat saath hi soorya se poshan karne vaale se praarthana ki. suvarnapaatr se tanke hue us aatm ke mukh ko anaavrut kar diya jaae taaki upaasak samajh sake, mahasoos kar sake kavah swayam hi brahmaroop hai aur antim shlokon mein kiye gaye sabhi karmon ko man ke dvaara yaad kiye jaane ki baat aati hai aur agni se praarthana ki pannyaachabhautik shareer ke raakh mein parivrtit ho jaane par vah use divya path se charam gantavya ki or unmukh kar de.
