hindu dharm ka itihaas ati praacheen hai. is dharm ko vedakaal se bhi poorv ka maana jaata hai, kyonki vaidik kaal aur vedon ki rachana ka kaal alag-alag maana jaata hai. yahaan shataabdiyon se maukhik parampara chalti rahi, jiske dvaara iska itihaas va granth aage badhte rahe. uske baad ise lipibddh karne ka kaal bhi bahut lamba raha hai. hindu dharm ke sarvapoojya granth hain ved. vedon ki rachana kisi ek kaal mein naheen hui. vidvaanon ne vedon ke rachanaakaal ka aarambh 4500 E.poo. se maana hai. yaani yeh dheere-dheere rache gaye aur antat: pehle ved ko teen bhaagon mein sankalit kiya gaya- rigved, yajurved va saamaved jiase vedatrayi kaha jaata tha. maanyata anusaar ved ka viabhaajan Ram ke janaam ke poorv pururava rishi ke samay mein hua tha. baad mein atharvaved ka sankalan rishi atharva dvaara kiaya gaya. vaheen ek anya maanyata anusaar Krishna ke samay mein ved vyaas ne vedon ka vibhaag kar unhein lipibddh kiya tha. is maan se likhit roop mein aaj se 6508 varsh poorv puraane hain ved. shreekrushn ke aaj se 5300 varsh poorv hone ke tathaaya dhooaindh liye gaye hain.
