harshacharit sanskrut mein baanabhatt dvaara rachit ek granth hai. ismein bhaarateeya samraat harshavardhan ka jeevanacharit varnit hai. aitihaasik kathaanak se sambandhit yeh sanskrut ka sabse praacheen granth hai.

is samay upalabdh harshacharit aath uchhvaason mein vibhaajit hai. jismein se pehle dhaai uchhvaas baan ki aatmakatha roop mein hain. taduparaant sthaaneeshvar (aadhunik thaaneshvar) ke punyabhooti vansh, jinmein harsh ke pita prabhaakaravardhan ka janm hua tha, ka varnan hai. baan ne prabhaakaravardhan ki putri raajyashri aur kannaujaadhipti grahavarma maukhari ke vivaah ka varnan kiya hai. apne jyeshth putr raajavardhan ko hoonon ka hanan karne ke liye bhejkar prabhaakaravardhan jvaragrast ho gaye. baan ne uske rog, mrutyu, daah-sanskaar evam saamrajnyai yashomati ke aatmadaah ka varnan kiya hai. tabhi gaud evam maalav senaaon ke kannauj par aakraman tatha grahavarma ki hatya ki soochana milti hai yeh sunakar raajyavardhan kannauj ki or badhe. shatruon ne hathiyaar daal diye. parantu chaalaaki kheli. raajyavardhan ko shatru shivir mein aamantrit kiya gaya aur unki nirmam hatya kar di gayi. harsh ne apne bahanoi evam bhaai ki hatya ka badla lene ki pratijnyaa ki tatha kannauj ki or prasthaan kiya. harsh ki badhti hui sena ke saamane shatru bhaag nikla. yeh sunakar harsh ke vismaya ka ant na tha ki raajyashri kaid se chhootakar vindhyaachal ki or chali gayi. bahut parishramayukt khoj ke pashchaat harsh ne aatmadaah karne ko tatpar raajyashri ko divaakar mitr rishi ke aashram ke paas paaya aur ganga ke tat par apne shivir mein le aaya. yahaaain granth akasmaat samaapt ho jaata hai.

aisa kaha jaata hai ki baan ka vichaar harsh ke charitra ko poornaroopen likhne ka naheen tha. vah iska keval maatr ek ansh likhna chaahate the kyonki unhonne apne shrotaaon ko batalaaya hai 'harsh ke jeevan ka varnan' saikadon jeevanon mein bhi naheen kiya ja sakta. yadi aap usaka ek ansh sunana chaahate ho to main taiyaar hooain. yeh bhi theek hi kaha jaata hai ki 'harshacharit' harsh ke jeevan ki keval ek ghatna maatr hai kyonki harsh charit se upalabdh aitihaasik gyaan bahut hi kam hai. parantu is granth ki samaalochana karte hue hamein ise aitihaasik rachana ke roop mein naheen dekhna chaahiye. vastut: use aitihaasik kathaanak se yukt ek kaavya kehna hi adhik yuktisangat hai. lekhak ki poorn shakti kaavya-pratibha ka pradarshan karne par hi kendrit hai aur aitihaasikta unke liye gaun hai. unhonne kruti ke pratinaayak bhoot gaud evam maalav raajaaon ka naam bhi naheen diya hai. bhoomi ko gaudon se shoonya karne ke harsh ke nishchaya hone par bhi, baan ne gaudon ki bhaavi ghatnaaon ko chhod diya hai. jahaan paathak vindhyaparvat mein se harsh ki gaveshana ke parinaam ko sunane ko utkanthit hain vahaan baan vindhyaparvat ka sookshm varnan karne mein sanlagn hain.
