Bhagwan shri svaaminaaraayan sarv avataaron ke avataari hai. 3 April 1781 (chaitr shukl 9, vi.samvat 1837) ko shreeraam ki janmabhoomi ayodhya ke paas sthit gram chhapiya mein unka is pruthvi par avataran hua. raamanavami hone se sampoorn kshetr mein parv ka maahaul tha. pita shri hariprasaad va maata bhaktidevi ne unka naam ghanashyaam rakha. baalak ke haath mein padm aur pair se bajr, oordhvarekha tatha kamal ka chinh dekhkar jyotishiyon ne kah diya ki yeh baalak laakhon logon ke jeevan ko sahi disha dega.

paanch varsh ki avastha mein baalak ko aksharajnyaaan diya gaya. aath varsh ka hone par usaka janeoo sanskaar hua. chhoti avastha mein hi usane anek shaastron ka adhyayan kar liya. jab vah keval 11 varsh ka tha, to maata va pitaaji ka dehaant ho gaya. kuchh samay baad apne bhaai se kisi baat par vivaad hone par unhonne ghar chhod diya aur agale saat saal tak poore desh ki parikrama ki. ab log unhein neelakanthavarni kehne lage. is dauraan unhonne gopaalayogi se ashtaang yog seekha. ve uttar mein himaalaya, dakshin mein kaanchi, shreerangapur, raameshvaram aadi tak gaye. iske baad pandharapur va Nasik hote hue ve Gujarat aa gaye.
