ekaantik vaishnav sanpradaaya ka praacheen naam hai. vaishnav sanpradaaya ko praacheen kaal mein anek naamon se pukaarate the jinmein Bhagwat, saatvat tatha paancharaatr naam vishesh vikhyaat hain. 'ekaantik' bhi isi ka upper paryaaya hai. 'padmatantr' naamak paancharaatr sanhita ka yeh vachan pramaan ke liye upasthit kiya ja sakta hai:

is naamakaran ke liye paryaapt kaaran vidyamaan hai. 'ekaantik' shabd ka arth hai - vah dharm jismein ek hi (bhagavaan‌) ant ya siddhaant maana jaae. Bhagwat dharm ka pradhaan tatv hai prapatti ya sharanaagati. bhagavaan‌ ki sharan mein jaane par hi jeev ka kalyaan hota hai. bhagavaan‌ ki jab tak krupa jeev par naheen hoti, tab tak usaka uddhaar naheen hota. is krupa ko kriyaasheel banaane ke liye 'sharanaagati' hi param saadhan hai. isliye bhaagavaton ka sarvashreshth granth bhagavadgeeta 'maamekan sharanan vraj' ki gauravapoorn shiksha deti hai. ekaanti bhakt ki bhagavatpraapti ka varnan anusmrutti mein kiya gaya hai.

upanishd yug mein Bhagwat dharm 'ekaayan' naam se prakhyaat tha jo 'ekaantik' ka hi ek nootan abhidhaan hai. chhaandogya upanishd (7. 1. 2) mein bhoomaavidya ke varnanaprasang mein naarad ke dvaara adheet vidyaaon mein 'ekaayanavidya' ke naam ka pratham ullekh upalabdh hota hai- rigvedan bhagavoऽdhyemi yajurvedan saamavedamatharvaanan vaakovaakyamekaayan ch. is shabd ke arth ke vishay mein praacheen teekaakaaron mein matabhed hai. rang raamaanuj naamak shreevaishnav teekaakaar ki sammati mein 'ekaayan' shabd ved ki 'ekaayan shaakha' ka dyotak hai jiska saakshaat‌ sambandh bhaagavat‌ ya vaishnav sanpradaaya se hai. naarad paancharaatreeya bhakti ke mahaneeya aachaarya hain. ve hi chhaandogya ke poorvokt prasang mein ekaayan vidya ke jnyaaata roop se ullikhit kiye gaye hain. is kaaran bhi 'ekaayan' vidya ko Bhagwat shaastr ke arth mein grahan karna uchit prateet hota hai. shukl yajurved ki kaanv shaakha ka hi naam 'ekaayan shaakha' hai, aisa 'kaanv shaakhaamahima sangrah' naamak granth mein naagesh ka kathan hai. is mat ki pushti 'jayaakhya sanhita' se bhi hoti hai. is sanhita ke anusaar paancharaatr (veshnav mat) ke pravartak paaainchon rishi, jinke naam aupagaayan, kaushik, shaandilya, bharadvaaj tatha maunjaayan hain, kaanv shaakha ke adhyeta batalaae gaye hain (jayaakhya sanhita 1. 116). falat: 'ekaantik' tatha 'ekaayan' donon shabd praacheen Bhagwat sanpradaaya ke liye prayukt hote the; yeh tathya maanana nitaant uchit hai.

ekaantik dharm ki praacheen sanhitaaon ki sankhya 108 ke oopar batalaai jaati hai jinmein ahirbudhnya, jayaakhya tatha bruhad brahmasanhita mukhya hain. inmein chaar vishyon ka pratipaadan vishesh roop se kiya gaya hai-gyaan, yog, kriya tatha charya. gyaan ke antargat brahm, jeev tatha jagat‌ ke aadhyaatmik roop ka aur srushtittv ka vishesh niroopan kiya gaya hai. yog prakaran mein mukti ke saadhanabhoot yog tatha usaki prakriyaaon ka vivran hai. kriyaaprakaran mein vaishnav mandiron ka nirmaan, moorti ki sthaapana aadi vishyon ka varnan hai. charya ke antargat aahvik kriya, moortiyon ke poojan ka vistrut vivran, parv tatha utsav ke avsaron par vishisht pooja ka vidhaan varnit hai. inheen sanhitaaon ke aadhaar par vaishnav sanpradaayon ki vishesh unnati madhya yug mein hoti rahi.
