ek baar bhagavat-anuraagi tatha punyaatma maharshiyon ne shri vedavyaas ke param shishya sootaji se praarthana ki-he jnyaaanasaagar ! aapke shreemukh se vishnu Bhagwan aur shankar ke daivi charitra tatha adbhut leelaaen sunakar ham bahut sukhi hue. ishvar mein aastha badhi aur gyaan praapt kiya. ab krupa kar maanav jaati ko samast sukhon ko upalabdh karaane vaale, aatmik shakti dene vaale tatha bhog aur moksh pradaan karaane vaale pavitratam puraan aakhyaan sunaakar anugruheet keejiye. jnyaaanechhu aur vinmr mahaatmaaon ki nishkapat abhilaasha jaanakar mahaamuni sootaji ne anugrah sveekaar kiya. unhonne kaha-jan kalyaan ki laalasa se aapne badi sundar ichha prakat ki. main aap logon ko use sunaata hooain. yeh sach hai ki shri mad devi bhaagavat puraan sabhi shaastron tatha dhaarmik granthon mein mahaan hai. iske saamane bade-bade teerth aur vrat naganya hain. is puraan ke sunane se paap sookhe van ki bhaanti jalakar nasht ho jaate hain, jisse manushya ko shok, klesh, du:kh aadi naheen bhogane padte. jis prakaar soorya ke prakaash ke saamane andhakaar chhant jaata hai, usi prakaar bhaagavat puraan ke shravan se manushya ke sabhi kasht, vyaadhiyaan aur sankoch samaapt ho jaate hain. mahaatmaaon ne sootaji se bhaagavat puraan ke sambandh mein ye jijnyaaasaaen rakheen:

sootaji bole-devi Bhagwat ki katha-shravan se bhakton aur shraddhaalu shrotaaon ko riddhi-siddhi ki praapti hoti hai. maatr kshanabharaki katha-shravan se bhi devi ke bhakton ko kabhi kasht naheen hota. sabhi teerthon aur vraton ka fal devi Bhagwat ke ek baar ke shravan maatr se praapt ho jaata hai. satayug, treta tatha dvaapar mein to manushya ke liye anek dharm-karm hain, kintu kaliyug mein to puraan sunane ke atirikt koi anya dhaarmik aacharan naheen hai. kaliyug ke dharm-karmaheen tatha aachaaraheen manushyon ke kalyaan ke liye hi shri vyaasaji ne puraan-amrut ki srushti ki thi. devi puraan ke shravan ke liye yon to sabhi samay faladaayi hai, kintu fir bhi aashvin, chaitr, maargasheersh tatha aashaadh maason evam donon navaraatron mein puraan ke shravan se vishesh punya hota hai. vaastav mein yeh puraan navaahr yagya hai, jo sabhi punya karmon se sarvopari evam nishchit faladaayak hai. is navaahn yagya se chhali, moorkh, amitr, ved-vimukh nindak, chor, vyabhichaari, uthaaigeer, mithyaachaari, go-devata-braahman nindak tatha gurudveshi jaise bhayaanak paapi shuddh aur paaparahit ho jaate hain. bade-bade vraton, teerth-yaatraaon, bruhad yajnyaon ya tapon se bhi vah punya fal praapt naheen hota jo shreemad devi bhaagavat puraan ke navaahr paaraayan se praapt hota hai.
