bhavishya puraan 18 pramukh puraanon mein se ek hai. iski vishay-vastu evam varnan-shaileeki drushti se atyant uchch koti ka hai. ismein dharm, sadaachaar, neeti, upadesh, anekon aakhyaan, vrat, teerth, daan, jyotish evam aayurved shaastr ke vishyon ka adbhut sangrah hai. vetaal-vikram-samvaad ke roop mein katha-prabandh ismein atyant ramaneeya hai. iske atirikt ismein nityakarm, sanskaar, saamudrik lakshan, shaanti tatha paushtik karm aaraadhana aur anek vratonka bhi vistrut varnan hai.[1] bhavishya puraan mein bhavishya mein hone waali ghatnaaon ka varnan hai. isse pata chalta hai isa aur muhammad saahab[2] ke janm se bahut pehle hi bhavishya puraan mein maharshi ved vyaas ne puraan granth likhte samay muslim dharm ke udbhav aur vikaas tatha isa maseeh tatha unke dvaara praarambh kiye gaye isaai dharm ke vishay mein likh diya tha.[3]

yeh puraan bhaaratavarsh ke vartamaan samast aadhunik itihaas ka aadhaar hai. iske pratisrgaparv ke truteeya tatha chaturth khand mein itihaasaki mahattvapoorn saamagri vidyamaan hai. itihaas lekhakonne praay: iseeka aadhaar liya hai. ismein madhyakaaleen harshavardhan aadi hindu raajaaon aur alaauddeen, muhammad tugalak, taimooralang, baabar tatha Akbar aadi ka praamaanik itihaas niroopit hai. iske madhyamaparv mein samast karmakaand ka niroopan hai. ismein varnit vrat aur daan se sambaddh vishay bhi atyant mahattvapoorn hain. itne vistaar se vraton ka varnan na kisi puraan, dharmashaastramein milta hai aur na kisi svatantr vrat-sangrah ke granth mein. hemaadri, vratakalpadrum, vrataratnaakar, vrataraaj aadi paravarti vrat-saahitya mein mukhyaroop se bhavishyapuraan ka hi aashray liya gaya hai.

bhavishya puraan ke anusaar, iske shlokon ki sankhya pachaas hajaar ke lagbhag honi chaahiye, parantu vartamaan mein kul 14,000 shlok hi upalabdh hain. vishay-vastu, varnanashaili tatha kaavya-rachana ki drashti se bhavishyapuraan uchchakoti ka granth hai. ismein dharm, sadaachaar, neeti, upadesh, aakhyaan-saahitya, vrat, teerth, daan, jyotish evam aayurved se sambandhit vishyon ka adbhut sanyojan hai. iski kathaaeain rochak tatha prabhaavotkapaadak hain. yeh puraan brahm, madhyam, pratisrg tatha uttar-in chaar pramukh parvon mein vibhkt hai. madhyamaparv teen tatha pratisrgaparv chaar avaantar khandon mein vibhkt hai. parvon ke antargat adhyaaya hain, jinki kul sankhya 485 hai. yeh puraan Bhagwan soorya ki mahatta ka sundar pratipaadak hai. pratisrgaparv ke dviteeya khand ke 23 adhyaayon mein vetaal-vikram-samvaad ke roop mein katha-prabandh hai, vah atyant ramaneeya tatha mohak hai, rochakata ke kaaran hi yeh katha-prabandh gunaadhaya ki 'bruhatkatha', kshemendr ki 'bruhatkatha-manjari, somadev ke 'katha-saritsaagar' aadi mein vetaalapanyachavinshati ke roop mein sangruheet hua hai. bhavishya puraan ki inheen kathaaon ka naam 'vetaalapanyachavinshati' ya 'vetaalapanyachavinshatika' hai. isi prakaar pratisrgaparv ke dviteeya khandake 24 se 29 adhyaayon tak upanibddh 'shreesatyanaaraayanavratakatha' uttam katha-saahitya hai. uttaraparv mein varnit vratotsav tatha daan-maahaatmya se sambaddh kathaaeain bhi ek se badhkar ek hain. braahmaparv tatha madhyamaparv ki soorya-sambandhi kathaaeain bhi kam rochak naheen hain. aalha-udal ke itihaas ka prasiddh aakhyaan isi puraan ke aadhaarapar prachalit hai.

braahm parv

bhavishya ki ghatnaaon se sambandhit is pandrah sahasr shlokon ke mahaapuraan mein dharm, aachaar, naagapanchami vrat, sooryapooja, stri prakaran aadi hain. iske is parv ke aarambh mein maharshi sumantu evam raaja shataaneek ka samvaad hai. is parv mein mukhyat: vrat-upavaas pooja vidhi, sooryopaasana ka maahaatmya aur unase judi kathaaon ka vivran praapt hota hai.

madhyam parv

madhyamaparv mein samast karmakaand ka niroopan hai. ismein varnit vrat aur daan se sambaddh vishay bhi atyant mahattvapoorn hain. itne vistaar se vraton ka varnan na kisi puraan, dharmashaastramein milta hai aur na kisi svatantr vrat-sangrah ke granth mein. hemaadri, vratakalpadrum, vrataratnaakar, vrataraaj aadi paravarti vrat-saahitya mein mukhyaroop se bhavishyapuraan ka hi aashray liya gaya hai. is parv mein mukhya rup se shraaddhakarm, pitrukarm, vivaah-sanskaar, yagya, vrat, snaan, praayashchitt, annapraashan, mantropaasana, raaj kar dena, yagya ke dinon ki ganana ke baare mein vivran diya gaya hai.

pratisrg parv

iske pratisrgaparv ke truteeya tatha chaturth khand mein itihaas ki mahattvapoorn saamagri vidyamaan hai. itihaas lekhakon ne praay: isi ka aadhaar liya hai. ismein madhyakaaleen harshavardhan aadi hindu raajaaon aur alaauddeen, muhammad tugalak, taimooralang, baabar tatha Akbar aadi ka praamaanik itihaas niroopit hai. isa maseeh ke janm evam unki Bhaarat yaatra, hajarat muhamm ka aavirbhaav, dvaapar yug ke chandravanshi raajaaon ka varnan, kali yug mein hone raajaaon, bauddh raajaaon tatha chauhaan evam paramaar vansh ke raajaaon tak ka varnan ismein praapt hota hai.

uttar parv

is parv mein Bhagwan vishnu ki maaya se naarad ji ke mohit hone ka varnan hai iske baad striyon ko saubhaagya prada karne vaale anya kai vraton ka varnan bhi vistaarapoorvak kiya gaya hai.
