beriliym ek raasaayanik tatv hai. yeh prakruti mein shuddh roop mein kabhi naheen milta balki keval anya tatvon ke saath yaugikon mein hi paaya jaata hai. ise feeroja (beryl) naamak ratn mein paaya jaata hai jis kaaran se aam-bhaasha mein kabhi-kabhi beriliym ko bhi feeroja kah diya jaata hai. apne shuddh roop mein yeh tatv lauh-bhoore rang ka, halka aur bhangur (britl, aasaani se toot jaane wala) padaarth hota hai. raasaayanik drushti se yeh kshaareeya paarthiv dhaatu samooh ka sadasya hai. jab beriliym ko taambe, lohe, ailyuminiym ya nikal se milaakar mishrit dhaatu (ailoya) banaai jaati hai to vah adhik sakht aur halaki ho jaati hai. taambe-beriliym ki mishradhaatu se bane aujaar jab lohe ya ispaat par prahaar karte hain to chingaariyaaain naheen chhodte, jo kai audyogik sthitiyon mein kaam aata hai. apne kam-ghanatv aur halkepan ke kaaran in mishradhaatuon ko vimaanon aur upagrahon mein bhi istemaal kiya jaata hai. apne kam ghanatv ki vajah se yeh ex-re kirnon ko bhi naheen rokata, isaliye ex-re ke saath prayog hone vaale dhaanche aksar beriliym mishradhaatu ke bane hote hain.[1]
